Gunfire during a major, unconnected battle over the weekend caused damage to Binion's Gambling Hall & Hotel.

At least one bullet hit a ceiling tile in the casino canopy on Saturday. KLAS, a Las Vegas TV station, said that glass was also broken on the premises.

The police did not offer an estimate for repairing the damage.

Daniel Porter, 42, the alleged shooter, was taken into custody and is still being held at the Clark County Detention Center.

During the altercation, Porter is accused of firing four shots toward a crowd. When police officers searched him, they found a 9mm gun.

In addition to being charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, he was also accused of possessing a controlled substance, carrying a hidden weapon without a permission, owning or possessing a handgun by a prohibited individual, and firing a firearm into an occupied building.

On August 21, he will next appear in local court. He could spend years behind bars if found guilty of the accusations.

He later apologized in writing to the casino for causing damage to their assets.

30 in Combat

Approximately thirty people were involved in the incident, which happened on Saturday at around five in the morning near Fremont Street and Casino Center Boulevard.

Porter admitted to buying the 9mm gun for $100 just one week prior to the shooting when questioned about it by authorities while being arrested at a nearby police station. Porter is also accused of dropping a bag that contained white powder that was later identified as cocaine while being booked, according to the police. Its street value was not stated by the police.

Porter had methamphetamine, or meth, in his possession, according to the officers. According to investigators, he admitted to them that he used meth and cocaine prior to the shooting.

During his conversation with officers of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), Porter mentioned that he liked being in Downtown Las Vegas. In addition, he expressed his dislike for the Fremont Street neighborhood's Californian residents and said they were to blame for the incident that broke out over the weekend.

It looks like nobody who was engaged in the altercation suffered any severe injuries.

Porter's Beliefs

Porter's criminal history was examined by the police, who discovered that he had a history of aggression and offenses involving guns.

According to KLAS, he has convictions for burglary, shooting a gun into an occupied building, shooting a gun out of a car, assault, and attempted murder.
